FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Below are answers to some common questions about personal training. Please feel free to get in touch with me and ask me anything else you might want to know.

Where do we work out?

Mum+ is run from Gather Training in Maritime Greenwich.

PT sessions are run from either studio (Maritime or North Greenwich) or from your own home or gym. To workout at home, you will need a clear, flat space in your house or garden. If you're unsure whether you have enough space, just get in touch.

Do I need any equipment?

You don't need anything to start out. I will bring the equipment you need for your session and you just need to show up with comfortable, supportive clothing and trainers. You may want to purchase your own yoga mat or use a towel as a mat cover. I will offer suggestions for useful home equipment once your plan is in place.

What does a typical session look like?

A typical session lasts 60 minutes and will start with me checking in to see how you've been getting on and how you're feeling on the day. We'll then begin with a warm up before we get into the main body of the workout, which could be strength, flexibility, cardio, balance or a combination of disciplines, depending on your needs. Corrective exercise will usually make up part of the warm-up. Sessions conclude with a cool down and we'll then make a plan for your next session.

Do I need to have a certain level of fitness?

No. You could be completely new to exercise or you might be looking to get back into old habits. I will check that you are medically fit to exercise but otherwise you can start just as you are.

Can I choose the time I work out?

For PT sessions, yes. I work around you and your needs, so will accommodate your preferred time/s as far as my schedule allows.

Mum+ sessions run at set times on a termly rotation.

I'm pregnant. Can I work out?

Yes! Provided your pregnancy is healthy and a doctor has not said you should not exercise, yes you can. In fact, prenatal exercise has been shown to reduce many of the less pleasant symptoms of pregnancy such as backaches, constipation, low mood, poor sleep and fatigue. I found exercise to be highly beneficial during my pregnancy and was able to keep working out until the day before my daughter arrived! I am fully qualified to instruct exercise in pregnancy and can show you the right exercises and modifications for each trimester.

I've just had a baby. Can I work out?

If you have had your postnatal check-up and been cleared for exercise, yes you can. In fact, there are plenty of gentle exercises that are safe before this check point, but formal exercise sessions require medical clearance first. I am qualified to instruct postnatal exercise and will help you strengthen the deep core muscles that will rehabilitate your abdominals and pelvic floor to  ensure that all exercise is beneficial to recovery.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

For PT, you can cancel or rearrange a session with 24-hrs notice at no charge. If you cancel within 24-hrs of the session, the full price of the session is charged. However, for those on the flexible plan, only 30% of the session will be charged.

Mum+ sessions can only be rearranged or refunded if I am unable to take the session.
